Volunteer

You're the BEST!

This program needs your help! We are looking for volunteers who can serve in the following roles:

  • Adult Basic Literacy Tutors: This is a one-on-one opportunity to help an adult improve their reading skills. Training is provided by The Literacy Council of Central Alabama;
  • ESL tutors: This may be a one-on-one opportunity, or you may be with a small group of English Language Learners who are all on the same level of learning. You do not have to speak a language other than English to be a tutor. Training is provided by The Literacy Council of Alabama;
  • GED Classroom Volunteers: The Jefferson State Community College Instructor for GED can use volunteers to help with one-on-one assistance with class members as they each learn at their own pace on their own computer; if you have a background in English or Mathematics, you can help tutor GED students who may need some extra help. Training is offered by The Literacy Council of Alabama and Jefferson State Community College;
  • Reception Desk Volunteer: We need volunteers who can sit at the reception desk to provide a welcome to our students in a spirit of hospitality and respect. Your duties will include buzzing people into the building, answering the phone, giving out basic information about our programs and directing people to the right rooms on the hallway for their particular classes. The hours of the reception desk are Mondays through Thursdays, 8:30AM-1:30PM. We plan to have two volunteer shifts each day: 8:30AM-11:00AM; and 11:00AM-1:30PM. If you can help with this simple volunteer opportunity, please contact The Rev. Susan Clayton at 205-933-3709 or sclayton@ipc-usa.org for more information, orientation and to sign up for shifts.

For all of these volunteer opportunities, you may contact The Rev. Susan Clayton at 205-933-3709 or sclayton@ipc-usa.org to discuss where your gifts and time availability might best fit the program needs.

We love and appreciate our volunteers and wish to thank you for making a difference in the lives of our neighbors in these communities!
